Reading the numbers
Across the 25 model years of the Hyundai Sonata in this data, 2022 draws comparatively few complaints; 2011 is the outlier year.
Filings are rising — 77 in the last three years against 65 in the three before. For a vehicle this age that usually points to a wear-related failure owners are hitting now.
The median odometer reading at the time of complaint was 15,000 miles.
In owners' own words
In September 2022 I was driving the car and suddenly kept changing from sports to normal without by itself and then it slows down till engine went off, second incident happened the same exact thing in 17 June 2023, it came out that this issue from Manufacture and I donât trust this model anymore it became life threatening Power train
Car sometimes does not accelerate appropriately. Car needs to be shut off and restarted when this happens. Dealerships around me say they donât see anything wrong with the car. It happens randomly and shouldnât happen with a brand new car. I feel unsafe when it doesnât accelerate correctly. Power train
The vehicle is still under warranty but it has 25k miles and having transmission problems. Shifting from first to second gear I feel hard shifting , also when you prepare to stop itâs hard downshift again, downshift is more hard than up shifting. Power train
