In owners' own words
Lifter failure while driving on highway. Resulted in an immediate drop in speed taking me from 65 to 30 mph quickly, and having to cross three highway lanes of traffic in order to pull over. Lifter failures are well documented on the chevy silverado 1500 trucks with the 5.3V8 and the 6.2V8. Mine happened after the warranty period but there are many documented cases of owners having lifter failures at 3,000 miles. Engine
Oil cooler line ruptured causing engine to lose oil pressure. Fortunately, I was on a city street and was able to pull over and shut off the engine. Upon checking the engine I found excessive oil leaking to the ground. Doing research on the internet this is not a rare occurrence for these gm oil line hoses to fail. Imagine this happening while driving 65 miles an hour on a highway and no where to pull over. Engine · reported at 11,000 miles
The vehicle was being driven to work when the engine lost power and several warning lights started cycling. The vehicle started shaking badly. The truck had 62,735 miles and was regularly serviced. We took it to Christian Brothers Automotive in Lubbock, TX. where they were able to find that that lifters failed causing $7,000.00 in damage. The shop that made the repairs said it is a common and known issue. Engine
